Where the Lakers Stand in the Western Conference Today, with Guest Mo Dakhil! (Part 1)

The Lakers have had another summer of change, and more change is expected (or at least, if you're John Q. LakersFan, badly wanted). But right now, as the NBA offseason rolls into the dog days of August, where do things stand for Los Angeles relative to the rest of the conference? Are they a playoff team? A play-in team? Something (gulp) worse? How exactly did the Lakers get to this place, and is there any way out? (Hint, the issue could be cultural, coming from the front office.)

Andy is still wandering the wilderness, but that's no problem. Fielding all of these questions and more is the great Mo Dakhil, of Bleacher Report, The Athletic and the host of One Mo Thing, one of the great educational NBA segments on the Internet. It's Part 1 of a Two Part Moapallooza!

What kind of timeline are the Lakers on when it comes to a Kevin Durant trade, so it might move things along with Kyrie Irving? What comes out of the big summit meeting between Durant and Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai? Can the Nets convince Durant to hang around, or at the very least, find ways to let him cool off until the regular season starts and a very competitive Brooklyn squad takes the floor. And even if Durant gets moved, does that automatically mean Kyrie is next?

Plus, looking at the death of legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully, and how his passing illustrates the changing nature of sports coverage, and the belief that sports are at their core a collective experience.

HOSTS: Brian Kamenetzky, with Guest Mo Dakhil

SEGMENT 1: How Vin Scully's passing shows the change in the sports experience, and the ways it binds us together.

SEGMENT 2: Where do the Lakers stand in the Western Conference? Are they a top 6 squad?

SEGMENT 3: Can the Nets convince Durant to hang around? What happens if they do?
