Open your ears to 'The Truth in This Art' podcast, where Rob Lee is at the helm. Our today’s guest Jon Garcia, hailing from Austin, TX, is a versatile illustrator, graphic designer, and filmmaker. His artistic repertoire spans from classic ink and marker drawings to cutting-edge digital creations, primarily centered around captivating NES-style pixel art. Jon's academic journey led him to the University of Texas Permian Basin, where he earned degrees in communications and psychology, fortuitously avoiding student debt. His career in design and production kicked off as a topical producer and creative director for KWES-TV, where he earned accolades such as a Texas Associated Press Award and spearheaded the station's transition to high-definition. Jon's creative evolution continued at the One Creative Ad Agency in Albuquerque, NM, under the tutelage of luminaries Wendy Spalsbury and T. Payton, honing his skills in high-end design and creative strategy. Amid the demands of client work and the charms of a lively puppy, Jon rediscovered his passion for illustration, rekindling a love that began in his youth but was momentarily discouraged. He seamlessly shifted from fan art to his beloved pixel art, reminiscent of his gaming childhood. Collaboration is close to Jon's heart, as his designs and illustrations have graced diverse ventures, from businesses and podcasts to indie movies like "Monday" and "Millennium Bugs." Presently, he serves as the lead learning and development designer for Torchy’s Tacos, an Austin-based taco chain, all while savoring whiskey, video games, and quality time with his wife and canine companions, Arya and Keeley. Beyond this, he dedicates his nights to crafting a 2D point-and-click game inspired by the 90s era.
