Claims Planning Process Urgently Needs Examination As Shell Withdrawal From Clare Floating Wind Farm

A West Clare Councillor is warning that planning processes urgently need to be examined amid concern that targets for offshore wind cannot be met. It follows the decision by Shell to pull out of the Irish renewables market, having only agreed a deal to acquire a 51 per cent share in the Western Star Floating wind project off the Clare coast last November. Simply Blue, the company driving the project, says it's fully committed to the project and is progressing towards a new strategic partnership. But Kilkee Councillor Cillian Murphy says this, together with Equinor's decision to pull out of the Green Atlantic project at Moneypoint, highlight a worrying trend, as to how this country is going to get offshore renewables online.
