There are warnings that small shops in Clare could be 'wiped out' on accounting of rising thefts and burglaries. This week's meeting of the county's Joint Policing Committee heard thefts from shops rose by more than 50 percent year-on-year between January and August. It's led to calls for grants and low cost loans to be made available to small businesses for CCTV and extra security equipment ahead of the winter. Chair of the Clare JPC and Sixmilebridge-based Fine Gael Councillor John Crowe says support is needed
