An Emigrant's Narrative. A first hand account of Transatlantic emigration in the 1840s.

Emigration was how around one million Irish people escaped the Great Famine. Their experiences have been heavily stereotyped but what was it really like? This full recording of the 1850 book An Emigrants Narrative is a first account of transatlantic emigration in the mid 19th century. Written by William Smith the book details his experiences on the ship India which crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the Winter of 1847 - 48. The accounts at times harrowing and illustrates the difficulties endured by Irish emigrants fleeing the Great Famine.
