The Chair of Clare County Council's Housing Committee says a 'more proactive approach' on maintaining its property stock is needed. It's been revealed only a third of a ten million euro loan taken out by the Council to undertake works on properties needing maintenance has been spent. It's estimated around €1,600 is required per year for per property is required to maintain the local authority's 2,700 houses in the county. Shannon-based Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn says a rethink about how maintenance is approached may be needed in the future.
