A Clare carer's advocate is calling for a change in policy in the health service, which would see a move away from what he's described as "silo" thinking. It comes as new HSE figures show more than 6,000 people are languishing on homecare waiting lists, with 3,240 of those waiting on a new service and the remainder needing more help than they already have. Former Chief Executive of the National Community Care Network, Fiacre Hensey says more carers are retiring early due to burnout, while fewer numbes are into the sector resulting in recruitment difficulties. The Barefield man says making better use of carers would help reduce pressure on the hospital system, but he says more joined up thinking is needed.
