Shannon Resident Gives Cautious Welcome To Defective Apartments Redress Scheme

A Shannon resident is giving a cautious welcome to the approval of a scheme to address defects in apartments and duplexes built during the Celtic Tiger. It's estimated each apartment will cost 25,000 euro to fix - with a total cost to the taxpayer of up to 2.5 billion euro. A 2017 inspection of the Bru na Sionna complex in Shannon identified serious defects, with the owners of the 240 apartments there previously being faced with a €4m bill for repairs and upgrades. Bru na Sionna resident Lorraine Carew has been telling Clare FM's Rebecca O'Sullivan that while this is a major step forward, she has concerns about owners management companies receiving the funding.
