Dr Tomás Mac Conmara Discusses Upcoming Commemoration of Clare Republicans
On Friday's Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Dr Tomás Mac Conmara who is an Oral Historian, Author and Lecturer along with Patricia Hayward who has been researching the story of two particular Clare republicans for many years. Tomás spoke about the upcoming commemoration which will be held at Clooney Cemetery this Sunday in honour of two former Clooney IRA men named Con McMahon and Paddy Hennessy. He spoke about their execution along with 9 other IRA prisoners by the Irish Free state on this day 100 years ago in Limerick prison. Tomás who will be the guest orator at Sunday's commemoration described the lives of both Con and Paddy who were both active IRA Volunteers from the beginning of the War of Independence. Patricia who has been researching the story of Con McMahon and Paddy Hennessy spoke about her father being born in the same town that Con and Paddy were captured in on the same day.
