The oral contraceptive pill may have revolutionized parts of women's health and reproductive rights, but it has created quieter problems with the way we support and treat many women’s health issues today. In this exclusive interview, I sit down with Dr. Lara Briden, a Naturopathic Doctor and author of the Period Repair Manual, a book dedicated to helping women solve their hormone challenges without the pill. We share our passion for helping women make informed choices about their health and how the offering of the pill in many cases masks a woman’s underlying health conditions and may delay the type of care and support that achieves real results. We cover the pill and PCOS, endometriosis and PMS to help women understand if there is a role for this common medication in their lives, and what the possible risks and other solutions look like. We dispel the myth that the pill “regulates” the cycle (spoiler, it doesn’t) and many other burning questions that women have about this medication.
