episode 94: Hold the salt. Especially if you want to live longer.

Over the years there has been a particular formula to sell a health-related book. First you take a solid, well backed claim from science, say that it’s wrong, publish that doctor’s don’t know what they are doing, that medicine is keeping secrets from you and the secret to longevity is in doing the complete opposite to what you’ve always been told.

The reality is that science converges on a truth over years and years and studies upon studies. It takes decades for us to work towards what we think is the right answer, and even still we finish each conclusion by remarking about what further research needs to be done and the limitations in our thinking.

The sodium debate isn’t a debate. Salt is bad. Potassium is good. In this episode I teach you what the research says, and who you need to get reacquainted with the forgotten nutrient potassium. This episode is about blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and even about death. If you struggle to get your fruits and veggies in, this is the evidence as to why you need to focus on this one aspect of your diet.
