Clare's Green Senator Says Fewer Retrofits Down To Better Quality Builds Not Lack Of Interest

Clare's Green Party senator insists the drop in the number of shallow retrofits is down to better quality built houses and not a lack of interest. New figures from the SEAI show that in 2011, over 40,000 cavity walls and more than 50,000 attic insulations were carried out, in comparison to the just under 5,000 and over 6,000 respectively which were completed towards the end of 2022. While the Department of Energy has acknowledged the drop in shallow retrofits, but notes that the enhanced grant covering 80% of the cost of insulation, launched last February has led to increased interest. Inagh-based Senator Róisín Garvey says these figures don't reflect a lack of interest in the new grant, but rather highlight the buy-in to the importance of well-insulated homes over the past decade.
