Star Trek Stories

A podcast where we hang out with friends, watch episodes from across the Star Trek franchise, and chat about them! This is a show for both newcomers and long-time fans alike, as part of we what do here is explore perspectives on Star Trek and storytelling in general. We're currently watching through a curated 100 episode list titled "Venturing Through The Universe." In this list, we're exploring how the Star Trek franchise has grown and changed over the decades, beginning with its origins in 1964 and seeing where it ends up in the modern day. We'll go on adventures with Mister Spock, listen to Patrick Stewart wax philosophically about humanity, and see how high Captain Pike's towering pompadour can get. Covering the good, the bad, and the ugly, we'll get a look at just about everything Star Trek has to offer. So grab your headphones, cue up an episode, and get lost in a silly little Star Trek story with us. Make it so! Do you like what we have to say? Do you vehemently disagree with our steaming, hot takes? Then share your own perspectives with us over on Discord at https://discord.gg/6ynq25Zvkh Hosted by Jaron Hatch and Aaron Cole.

episode 60: "The Circle"

As much as I wish we could say we have come full circle, we have only reached the middle part of this trilogy. Maybe I can instead say that we have reached the middle point of a triangle? Does that work? Cool, so we have reached the middle of point of a triangle with "The Circle." Wait, a circle isn't the middle point of triangle, how am I supposed to square that? Forget the shapes, let's just watch this middle-ing episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine...

episode 59: "The Homecoming"

As with many DS9 episodes, Kira gets to kick butt in this one. So does that make her The Homecoming Queen? She certainly is my book. Man, imagine taking Kira to the Homecoming Dance. That floor would get lit. Seriously though, Kira would no doubt be in a phaser fight by the end of the night, busting out all those Bajoran terrorist moves on her Cardassian oppressors trying to kill her right to party...

episode 58: "Descent, Part II"

Our podcast's descent of quality continues, eerily mirroring TNG's own descent of quality in its seventh and final season. Are Star Trek podcasts only as good as the Star Trek episodes they're covering? Are we Star Trek fans merely the sum total of our Star Trek discussions? Is Data's evil twin brother Lore still kind of mid? Learn the answer to these Trek-istential questions and more as we watch this Season Seven premiering episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation...

Every podcast eventually experiences a rapid descent of quality and, whelp, here we are. But it's not our fault, we promise! It's TNG's fault! Find out for yourself as we watch this cliff-hanging episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

episode 56: "In the Hands of the Prophets"

This isn't going to be the same thing as being in the hands of a priest, is it? Because if it is, no thanks. Or is this going to be more along the lines of being in the eyes of an angel? Because again, if it is, no thanks. I guess we'll find out as we watch this Season One finale of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Episode discussion starts at 19:10.

episode 55: "Duet"

Duets are great, but we like trios here on Star Trek Stories. So does that make us better than episode we're reviewing today? If so, then oh boy, we might be one of the greatest Star Trek productions ever, as we're watching one of the all-time franchise greats this week. But we'll let you be the judge of that. Join us as we try to live up to our self-hype as we watch this classic episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

episode 53: "Battle Lines"

The battle lines must be drawn here... this far, no further! Well, maybe a little further. This is definitely not going to be the last war episode of Star Trek. It's one of the franchise's favorite concepts to go back to over and over again. DS9, in particular, goes to that well several times over its run, to the point where it's a signature part of its identity. So let's see how they tackle it here in this early episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine...

episode 51: "Q-Less"

Is this the one where Alicia Silverstone plays Q? Is that a thing?--and if not, how can we make that train wreck happen? While we might be Alicia Silverstone-less in this episode, we're also Picard-less and TNG-less, which is fairly rare for a Q-ful episode. Let's see how the motley station crew handles our favorite omnipotent being in this crossover episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
