45:20 And so I reassembled it in a different configuration, still play games on it every single day. But what's interesting is that motherboard, I bought it. Jeez. 9 years is it almost 9 years old now? And one of the it was it's an Asus TUF, and the selling point was it doesn't have electrolytic capacitors on it.
46:57 Right? So 9 years sounds actually like a pretty long time for something like that to continuously function. Like I said, I think I don't know how much better you're gonna get than that without doing redundancy.
46:18 And I don't know what caused the southbridge to fail on the board, but it did last 9 years or 8 years before it started exhibiting problems, which is the longest I've ever had a motherboard last. Mhmm. So there's that. But definitely did did I it definitely was not an heirloom motherboard, though.

49:16 I remember writing the first KiCad parser for MacroFab. This is 9 years ago at this point. Right. And being, like, why are all the outputs negative, like, for the placements? All the outputs are negative and they buy.
34:08 How so? Because people have been using KiCad for a long time, and, like, I think version was it version 5 was, like, 9 years ago at this point. KiCad's been around for basically as long as Eagle has, and people have found workarounds. By the way, this is not a dig on KiCad, but this is just KiCad has been around for so long. It's deficiencies.
EP#421: Tracing a Path for PCB Design Automation with Sergiy Nesterenko
March 12, 2024
(duration 54m)
[transcript]
01:14 This episode, our guest is Sergey Nestarenko. Sergey is the founder of Quilter, a startup focused on automating PCB layout. Before Quilter, Sergey was a senior avionics engineer at SpaceX focused on the Falcon 9 Falcon Heavy second stage in high radiation environments. Sergei holds a triple major in mathematics, physics, and chemistry from UC Berkeley.
02:15 And, one of my first tasks at SpaceX was to I was actually still in the EMI group. This was before I came over to radiation effects. It was to break out a soft switch, a soft start switch from the Falcon 9 power system, and hook it up to some automated test equipment. And that was my first time opening up Altium and trying to figure out how to do a PCB and how to do layout. And as I was doing it, I asked myself, why isn't a computer doing this?

20:19 Yeah. Yeah. So the RP 2040, it's it the the thing that makes it special is that its IO pins have their own state machine and so you get. It's a 9 instruction set. You get 32 instructions and you can basically for example, you can shift in all 32 IOs in a single clock, and then you can shift those and then DMA those into RAM on the next clock.
