In today's episode of the Kwibuka Podcast, hundreds of Tutsis are lured into the High Court building in Ruhengeri currently known a Musanze where local leaders promise them safety. Instead, the leaders of the area bring in killers to exterminate them all, including newborns. Killings continue in different places across the country, including churches like Nyange, Ruhanga, Ntarama, Nyarubuye, Cyahinda and others.

Today’s episode describes the events that led to the murders of more than 25,000 Tutsis at Kibeho Catholic Church in Nyaruguru. Those who had taken refuge at the Church and the buildings of the Kibeho Parish managed to ward off the killers for two days but reinforcements from gendarmes and Interahamwe from neighbouring sectors made the fight impossible...

L’épisode d’aujourd’hui décrit les événements qui ont conduit au meurtre de plus de 25 000 Tutsis à l’église catholique de Kibeho à Nyaruguru. Ceux qui s'étaient réfugiés à l'église et dans les bâtiments de la paroisse de Kibeho ont réussi à combattre les tueurs pendant deux jours mais les renforts des gendarmes et des Interahamwe des secteurs voisins ont rendu le combat impossible...

In today’s episode, local government leaders mislead their own constituents into gathering at specific places under the promise of being kept safe, only to fall victim to large groups of militiamen. Despite vigorous efforts to fight back using stones, sticks, arrows, their attempts are futile in the face of killers armed with grenades, guns and various traditional weapons.

Dans l’épisode d’aujourd’hui, les dirigeants au niveau de la base tendent un piège à leurs administrés en les réunissant à des endroits bien précis sous la fausse promesse de les protéger, pour ensuite les abandonner aux mains des groupes des miliciens. Malgré des efforts pour riposter en utilisant des pierres, des bâtons, des flèches, leurs tentatives sont vaines face à des tueurs bien armés de grenades, de fusils et d' autres armes traditionnelles.

In today’s episode, political leaders take to radio stations to call for the active participation of every citizen in the hunting and killing of Tutsis. While the killing continues in tens of thousands and bodies of victims are thrown in the Nyabarongo River, UNSG Boutros-Ghali proposes the withdrawal of UNAMIR contingents.
