Underworld Blues and Other Stories is an actual play podcast. If you're not sure what that means, it's basically a series of recordings of a group of friends playing tabletop RPGs and, in doing so, generating emergent and hopefully interesting stories together.
It's probably important to note that our current campaign also serves as an ongoing play-test of the Spiral roleplaying system, which was designed by Cloud Monster's very own Aleks Samoylov. The story begins in Azor'Din, the City of Hearths, an ancient desert metropolis built on religion, trade, and water. Ally, Jabari, and Eric take on the roles of three picaresque denizens of the storied oasis city, and Aleks takes on the responsibilities of the Narrator/GM.
Aside from our main campaign, we will likely also post shorter games (one shots and the like) using systems of our own making as well as systems developed by other independent designers.
We currently update every other week, on Mondays. Occasionally, we may take longer breaks between episodes to regroup, deal with life, and prepare for a new story arc.
Note: Due to various logistical and financial considerations, our sound setup is not ideal...
Zeb, Griffin, and Estheri (in the form of a cute, robotic mantis) are close, some would say dangerously close, to the object of their grand heist. With Rena Nightingale seeing red, and her guards hot on their trail,
Rena Nightingale’s long awaited masquerade ball is here at last, and, wouldn’t you know it, there are thieves in attendance! Our theme song is Space (Outro), by Andy G. Cohen, whose wonderful musical compositions you can check out HERE.
With only one day left before Rena Nightingale’s costume party, our less than heroic protagonists delegate a few trivial tasks, encounter some strudel delivery men, and put the finishing touches on their master plan…sort of.
Griffin and Zeb take a trip to The Bellwether as Estheri works diligently on her projects, which are not existentially terrifying at all! Our theme song is Space (Outro), by Andy G. Cohen, whose wonderful musical compositions you can check out HERE.
Our anti-heroes case out the joint, Estheri lets go of a part of herself, and Sabine publicly demonstrates her disdain for authority. Our theme song is Space (Outro), by Andy G. Cohen, whose wonderful musical compositions you can check out HERE.
In this special bonus episode of Underworld Blues and Other Stories, Aleks, Eric, and Ally play Honey Heist by Grant Howitt. You can support Mr. Howitt’s fantastic tabletop design work HERE. Our theme song is Space (Outro), by Andy G. Cohen,
In this riveting episode of Underworld Blues and Other Stories, Estheri drinks some tea and takes a nap while Zebediah and Griffin negotiate a municipal pest control contract for an old friend! Our theme song is Space (Outro), by Andy G. Cohen,
As we begin our campaign proper, Zebediah and Estheri have a perplexing encounter with a mysterious employer, Griffin shows up with some mead, and the trio puts their heads together to plan a daring caper! Our theme song is Space (Outro), by Andy G.
In this, the inaugural episode of Underworld Blues and Other Stories, we fill out our character sheets and talk a little bit about Spiral (the system that we’ll be running the campaign in), our rich inner lives, and The City of Hearths.
